Artist Statement
Transformation is the central theme throughout my work. I am drawn to the tension between movement and stillness, searching for fleeting moments of grace within impermanence. Nature is my endless source of inspiration because it continually reveals the beauty of transformation. Scars, decay, growth, and renewal all exist together. I experience awe standing before an immense sandstone canyon quietly shaped by water, wind, and time. I feel the same wonder with an old, twisted tree whose decay becomes life for the forest. Our world is magical. It reminds me every day to let go and let the river of life flow through me.
In my creative process I physically transform the materials I use. First, watercolors and ink create soft gradients and undulating shapes. Next, encaustic paint is applied in layers. I manipulate the wax with fire to make it move and seal together. Once cooled, I scrape or carve into my work to reveal previous layers. This process of heating and cooling, adding and peeling back continues until a final image emerges. My intention is to create paintings that tell their own story of transformation.
About
Lacy Pearson was raised in rural Utah surrounded by high desert mountain ranges. The raw beauty of this landscape filled her with curiosity and that awe has stayed with her throughout her life. The midwestern skies of her home in Carmel Indiana inspire her as much as the red rock canyons near her childhood home.

Lacy is also a registered yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance and holds a Master’s degree in Mindfulness-Based Transpersonal Counseling from Naropa University. Her background in mindfulness and contemplative practice continues to inform both her life and her creative process.
