Artist Statement

Transformation is the central theme throughout my work. I strive to capture the duality of movement, fleeting moments of grace within impermanence. Nature is an abundant source of inspiration for me. It consistently provides evidence of its transitional state which includes scarring and decay along with beauty and expansion. I experience awe when I stand near an immense sandstone canyon and see how it has been shaped by water, wind, and time. I feel the same wonder when I notice an old, twisted tree in the forest and know its allure arises from its unique challenges. Our world is magical. It reminds me every day to let go and let the river of life flow through me.

In my creative process I physically transform the materials I use. First, watercolors and ink create soft gradients and undulating shapes. Next, encaustic paint is applied in layers. I manipulate the wax with fire to make it move and seal together. Once cooled, I scrape or carve into my work to reveal previous layers. This process of heating and cooling, adding and peeling back continues until a final image emerges. My intention is to create paintings that tell their own story of transformation.

About

Lacy Pearson was raised in rural Utah surrounded by high desert mountain ranges. The raw beauty of this landscape filled her with curiosity and that awe has stayed with her throughout her life. The midwestern skies of her home in Carmel Indiana inspire her as much as the red rock canyons near her childhood home.

She is also a registered yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance and a certified health and wellness coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition.
